Loft Dynamics, which was founded in 2016 and formally known as VRM Switzerland, produces helicopter VR simulators for training helicopter pilots, including a training simulator for the Airbus H125. The company is to work with unmanned drone and eVTOL aircraft developer Dufour Aerospace to make a VR simulator for the hybrid-electric eight-seat Aero3 eVTOL aircraft, which is expected to enter service early 2025.
Gwinnett County is celebrating a major milestone after commissioners leased to its first Black-owned pilot school, allowing it to operate at the Briscoe Field Airport, according to a Tuesday news release from the county.

Lookup Flight Academy, LLC, officially has a 25-year lease with the county. The school’s founder, Michael Ojo, believes in empowering youth in aviation.

According to its website, Lookup Flight Academy operates out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“Pilotage demands doing the hard thing, regardless of gender or wealth,” Ojo said. “It requires equal attention from all, as your life and future hinge on it. Embrace the challenge!”

According to the county, the school will get a 2.3-acre site with a hangar and ramp.

The historic decision will allow the flight school to provide pilot training while addressing the underrepresentation of minority pilots in aviation.

The April 15 student-centric event will explore cutting-edge innovations in the future of air transportation.

Advanced air mobility (AAM) is a groundbreaking form of air transportation. It uses remotely piloted, autonomous or vertical take-off and landing aircraft to transport people and goods in remote and often emergency situations. And it holds the potential to reshape society’s movement and connectivity within and beyond cities.

In light of its importance, the Concordia Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation (CIADI), in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is hosting the university’s first symposium on AAM on April 15.

“This is a way to not only make students aware of advanced air mobility, why it’s important and what it’s all about, but also to make them passionate about it,” says Carole El Ayoubi, CIADI’s director of education…

The future of flight has just arrived in B.C. A Campbell River flight school received delivery of its newest airplane, which looks similar to its other training aircraft but with one major difference.

[This] Vancouver Island company says it is the first in the province to own and operate an electric airplane that will be used for training for the country.

Sealand Flight Ltd.’s all-electric Velis Electro aircraft aims to “lay the groundwork” for sustainable aviation in Canada, and has arrived in Campbell River, B.C.

From the outside looking in, it’s like any other airplane but, to set it apart, it obviously has no gas tank.

“This aircraft is the only certified electric airplane in the world,” Bill Alder said, Sealand Flight’s president. “Electric airplanes are coming.” The all-electric aircraft arrived in Campbell River this past weekend, where it was unboxed and assembled within an hour. The aircraft weighs roughly 600 kilograms and has a range of 50 minutes with a 10-minute reserve. The battery, much like a tank of gas, needs to be replenished.

“We’re in the process of putting charging stations in Powell River, Courtenay and Qualicum,” Alder said.

But now, Sealand Flight said the real work begins.

In March, technicians from Pipistrel, the aircraft manufacturer, will be hosting a week-long training course in Campbell River. Several industry partners, including Transport Canada, will be attending.

The first flight date has not been scheduled but Sealand Flight expects take off sometime in March.

Dunkeswell Airfield officially unveiled its new fully electric airplane today, the first to be used in Devon.

The UK company Aerovolt has installed an electric charger at the airfield with an electric plane, which will be used by the airfield to train pilots and leisure flying.

At a press event today, the plane launched and will be open to the public tomorrow (Saturday, February 24). The two-seater aircraft is made of carbon fibre with an electric battery which has a run time of around 40 minutes depending on how the plane is flown. Once you are done, the plane plugs in and charges the same way an electric car would, an app on your phone and plugs into the plane.

AeroVolt has also installed three electric charging points in the car-park, which allows people to drive to the airfield in their electric cars and then hop into your electric plane.

The company is also working with Octopus Electroverse, to expand the network. A platform like the electric car charging station has been installed at the airfield, with two cables underground, should Dunkeswell want to add another charger in the future.

Aerovolt was founded in 2022 by Phil K-Dobson and his twin brother Alan and had its public debut at the recent Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).

Aerovolt also offers low-cost electric flying to all pilots with a Private Pilot’s Licence. A conversion course of training is required but then the Pipistrel Velis Electro aircraft will be available for £100 per hour, with electricity costing £8 to £9 per hour.

Aerovolt has developed its own ‘Squadron’ management system to book charging slots, real-time charger usage, load balancing and communication across the network.

Phillip Kingsley Dobson told the Herald: “This is an exciting development in the aviation sector,” said a statement from Aerovolt. “Never before has a pilot been able to fly electric from one destination to another, charge the aircraft and return, using a publicly operated permanently installed smart charger.

“Later this year, SkyDemon will be adding our smart charging data feed for electric aircraft to their popular flight planning and navigation application, marking a first in live access to aircraft charger information in pre and in-flight operations.”

“This launch is very exciting for Dunkeswell and I hope starts the electric plane revolution.”
